Ashjar E1, Ashjar, Al Barari Living Room Alt Angle — Exposed Chamber design direction

Exposed Shelter. View Obstructed.

Living Room Alt Angle • Ashjar E1, Ashjar, Al Barari, Dubai, UAE
A large, clear glass room stands centered within the open plan, offering no visual barrier. Inside, a stark white rug defines a sitting area, fully visible from all sides. A massive, dark concrete object bisects the main window view, deliberately obstructing the exterior prospect. The path to the glass chamber forces an open, exposed approach, emphasizing its performative nature.
The room turns private moments into public performance.
Design Philosophy
The design applies contradictory volumes, creating shelter that offers full visual exposure. Performative intimacy is achieved by placing private moments on public display. This subverts traditional expectations of private and public space. The arrangement challenges conventional spatial relationships.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye is first drawn to the large, dark concrete monolith partially blocking the window view. The circulation path then guides you around the transparent glass chamber. You ultimately settle exposed within its clear walls or on the elevated window perch.
Light Study
Morning light pours through the expansive windows, reflecting brightly off the polished concrete floor. Evening brings focused theatrical spotlights, illuminating occupants within the glass chamber for display. This creates a stark contrast between internal performance and external darkness.
Living Vignette
A guest stands outside the glass chamber, observing two figures conversing inside. Their gestures are visible, their voices muted, highlighted by direct overhead illumination.
