Living Room Alt Angle • Ashjar E1, Ashjar, Al Barari, Dubai, UAE
The existing light floor is replaced by dark, polished concrete, grounding the room. A new lower ceiling above the main seating creates intimacy. Deep charcoal walls define the entertainment zone.
Lighter perimeter walls expand the space outward. Furniture is rearranged into distinct zones for interaction. New window treatments manage light and enhance enclosure.
This room uses contrasting zones to define its purpose.
Design Philosophy
This design employs **Contrast & Connection** to define distinct areas. Darker elements compress the core, fostering intimacy. Lighter perimeters release the eye, expanding the space. **Layered Zones** create a dynamic push and pull, shaping how the room is experienced.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye is drawn to the deep charcoal entertainment wall first. You walk across the cool concrete to the soft, light-toned rug. You settle into the main seating area beneath the intentionally lowered ceiling.
Light Study
Morning sun streams across the light perimeter walls, brightening the space. Evening light from integrated fixtures defines the seating area. Ambient light from outside softens the dark core at dusk.
Living Vignette
The quiet hum of the room fills the space. A book rests open on the side table.
Material Palette
Dark polished concrete: Smooth and cool underfoot, it develops a subtle, refined patina over time.
Matte charcoal paint: It absorbs light, creating a sense of depth, and maintains its rich, consistent tone.
Plush, light-colored wool: Soft to the touch, this natural fiber resists wear and cleans with ease.
