Living Room • Ashjar E1, Ashjar, Al Barari, Dubai, UAE
All built-in shelving is removed. A vast, seamless matte white wall now dominates. Furniture is reduced to geometric blocks. Lighting focuses to sharp, directional spotlights.
Walls, ceiling, and floor present uniform matte white finishes. Honed light gray concrete defines the ground plane. Every element is a deliberate, unadorned statement. Negative space achieves visual prominence.
The room reveals structure through defined voids and essential forms.
Design Philosophy
This design applies the core principles of Controlled Void and Formal Enumeration. Negative space becomes a primary element, achieving visual prominence. Every object is a distinct, unadorned statement. The goal is clarity of structure and fundamental forms.
Spatial Narrative
The eye is drawn immediately to the vast, uninterrupted monochromatic wall. You move across the smooth concrete floor, experiencing the open expanse. You settle into the living area, grounded by the untextured light gray rug.
Light Study
Morning light floods the space, revealing subtle surface textures and casting long, expansive shadows. Evening illumination from recessed spotlights creates sharp contrasts, highlighting architectural planes and purposeful voids. Deep darkness defines intentional negative space.
Living Vignette
A visitor places a dark-bound book onto the stark white block table. The sharp edge of the spine contrasts against the unadorned surface.
