Adjacent to this, a vast white epoxy resin floor expands the room. Broad, diffused light floods this zone with overwhelming brightness. Minimal, ethereal furniture sits on the reflective surface. The fireplace, framed in matte black lacquer, bridges these two contrasting spaces.
This room forces a constant re-evaluation of its boundaries.
Design Philosophy
This design creates a confronting spatial debate. It uses **Compression and release** to manipulate scale and perception. A low, dark zone dramatically contrasts a bright, expansive area. This approach, using **Epiplexis**, challenges the occupant to question their spatial experience.
Spatial Narrative
You walk through a narrow, dark timber passage. Your eyes adjust to the low, felt-lined ceiling above deep-seated furniture. You then turn towards the blindingly bright, open floor.
Light Study
Morning sun streams through glass doors, washing the expansive resin floor in glare. Focused spotlights in the compression zone create sharp, contained light pockets. Evening brings a diffused glow to the open zone, while the compressed area remains dramatically lit by harsh pinpoints.
Living Vignette
You shift from the sinking comfort of the dark seating. The intense brightness of the white floor makes you squint.
Material Palette
Deep charcoal acoustic felt: This soft material absorbs sound and resists pilling over time.
