1675 Carla Rdg Living Room — Unbound Form design direction

Form Deconstructed. Raw Space.

Living Room • 1675 Carla Rdg, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
A raw concrete block interrupts expected pathways. Plaster stripped from walls reveals the concrete beneath. This shows the building's honest skeleton. The space redefines completeness through exposed structure. Indirect light softens the main seating area. Furniture shows exposed frames and deconstructed forms. An unprimed canvas acts as a textural statement. This design challenges conventional expectations of finish.
The room reveals honesty in fractured forms.
Design Philosophy
The design applies Anacolouthon, breaking visual narratives intentionally. This creates unexpected resolutions within the space. Anti-decoration strips away superficial elements. The room reveals raw materials and structural honesty.
Spatial Narrative
The concrete block immediately draws the eye upon entry. It guides movement around its sculptural form. Exposed walls then direct attention to the building's structure. You settle into deconstructed seating, framed by soft shadows.
Light Study
Morning light pours in from large glass doors, sharply defining exposed concrete. This creates high contrast and highlights raw textures. Evening brings soft, diffused light from cove illumination. It washes ceilings and upper walls, casting the room in quiet shadows.
Living Vignette
A hand traces the rough surface of the board-formed concrete block. The quiet hum of city life filters through the large windows.
Material Palette
Exposed concrete: It feels raw, cool, and hard; it ages by gaining a unique patina from wear. Untreated dark steel: It feels cold, strong, and rigid; it ages by developing a dark, protective rust. Unbleached linen: It feels soft, textured, and breathable; it ages by softening further and showing subtle creases. Rough-sawn ash wood: Its grains are visible, tactile, and sturdy; it ages by deepening in color and showing natural wear. Undyed raw wool: It feels coarse, grounding, and warm underfoot; it ages by compacting and developing a rich texture.
