1675 Carla Rdg Living Room — Kinetic Luminosity design direction

Light Shapes Space. Form. Movement.

Living Room • 1675 Carla Rdg, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
Light is the primary material in this room. The redesigned fireplace frames the flame and its deep reflection. Translucent, layered panels diffuse exterior light, creating a soft, visible glow. Dynamic projections cast slow-moving abstract patterns onto walls and floors. Illuminated pathways guide circulation through deliberate shadows. Key furniture pieces feature integrated backlighting or uplighting. This makes them appear to float and highlights their distinct forms.
This room makes light a tangible, active element.
Design Philosophy
This design treats light as a tangible element, not just illumination. It defines space through the framework of "Light as Form." Perception is actively shaped by "Dynamic Perception," creating a dynamic atmosphere. Light sources and their visible effects become physical manifestations.
Spatial Narrative
The eye is drawn to the fireplace, where flame and reflection interact. Light fields guide movement along defined paths through contrasting shadows. You settle into seating, surrounded by subtle backlighting and projected patterns.
Light Study
Morning light filters softly through layered panels, creating diffused interior glows and even illumination. In the evening, a projection system casts moving patterns onto surfaces. Recessed lights define clear paths, contrasting with deep, deliberate shadows.
Living Vignette
A slow-moving pattern drifts across the polished wall as you sit. The sofa base glows, detaching it from the dark floor.
Material Palette
High-gloss black glass: This material provides deep, dark reflection, capturing and amplifying light interactions. Sheer fabric panels: Multiple layers diffuse daylight softly, creating a luminous and adaptable screen. White microcement walls: These walls offer a smooth, matte surface, serving as a canvas for projected light.
