Ambiguous Teal Immersion

Living Room • 4000 Ballina Dr, Encino, CA 91436
Walls, ceiling, and built-ins drench in a single matte teal. This deep color blurs edges, making the room's true size unclear. The space feels infinite, an immersive color field. A polished teal floor continues this unbroken tone. Low-slung velvet lounge chairs appear to dissolve into the floor. A large, frameless mirror expands the space, multiplying the depth.
This room blurs its own boundaries, challenging perception.
Design Philosophy
The design uses Monochromatic Immersion to unify the entire space in one deep teal. This technique removes visual breaks and defines no clear boundaries. Perceptual Blur then distorts scale and depth. The goal is to create a sense of playful disorientation for the user.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first sees an endless teal expanse. It struggles to find a hard edge or corner. You walk into a space without clear dimension. The deep lounge chairs offer the only grounding point.
Light Study
Morning light entering through windows hits the deep teal, revealing subtle color variations. Indirect LED strips enhance the color's depth in the evening. Shadows disappear, creating a flat, immersive glow.
Living Vignette
A hand reaches for a book on a built-in shelf. The teal cover disappears against the deep teal background.
