Living Room Becomes Indoor Garden

Living Room • 772 8th Ave, Unit 1, San Francisco, CA 94118
The living room now breathes. A living wall covers the largest surface, trailing plants climb its vertical expanse. Sunlight filters through sheer linen curtains, softening the room's edges. A large petrified wood slab replaces old tables. Natural textures ground the space. Rattan, cork, and jute surfaces invite touch. Walls wear a soft, earthy green. This encourages quiet focus throughout the space.
The room functions as an indoor garden.
Design Philosophy
This design transforms a generic room. It connects inhabitants to nature directly. Biophilic principles guide material choices and plant integration. Phenomenological insights shape the experience of light and texture.
Spatial Narrative
The living wall immediately draws the eye. Paths open around the central petrified wood table. You settle into the deep sofa, or the hanging rattan chair by the window.
Light Study
Morning light streams through the sheer linen, diffused and soft. Midday sun casts dappled shadows from the living wall. Evening brings warm glows from recessed spotlights and woven table lamps.
Living Vignette
A hand reaches out to touch a smooth petrified wood surface. Water trickles softly from the living wall's irrigation system.
Material Palette
Petrified Wood: Its polished surface feels solid and cool. It resists wear for centuries. Sheer Linen: It lets light filter softly. It drapes with a relaxed elegance.
