Dining Room • 772 8th Ave, Unit 1, San Francisco, CA 94118
Floor-to-ceiling silk panels separate the dining area from the kitchen. Light filters through these translucent layers, creating soft shadows. A low, round table crafted from reclaimed wood anchors the space.
Floor cushions and poufs offer varied seating heights and textures. Layered sheer curtains soften the window light. An abstract textile artwork provides a visual focal point.
This room defines a private dining experience with light and texture.
Design Philosophy
This design uses Textile Architecture to define a dining experience. Floor-to-ceiling silk panels create a fluid partition, allowing light to pass through. A Human-Centric approach guided the choice of low seating and a round table for intimacy. The focus is on a Phenomenological experience of light, texture, and soft boundaries.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first meets the flowing silk panels, drawing you into the dining area. You walk around the low round table, feeling the texture of the circular rug. Settle onto a cushioned pouf, close to the conversation.
Light Study
Morning light streams through layered sheer curtains, diffusing into a soft glow across the floor. In the evening, ambient lamps cast warm pools of light, highlighting the silk panels' subtle folds. Shadows deepen around the low furniture.
Living Vignette
A guest shifts a floor cushion closer to the table, leaning in to hear a story. The soft rustle of silk panels accompanies quiet laughter.
