Tactile Living Room

Living Room • 772 8th Ave, Unit 1, San Francisco, CA 94118
Limewashed plaster replaces stark walls. Its uneven texture softens incoming light. Antique leather furniture invites touch, showing its history. Brass fixtures will darken, marking the passage of years. Every surface develops character. A hand-knotted rug anchors the space. Solid wood tables display the marks of daily life. This room feels lived-in, not new.
This room celebrates time, touch, and authenticity.
Design Philosophy
This design transforms the living room into a space that honors age and imperfection. Through a Phenomenological lens, it prioritizes sensory experience and interaction. An Aesthetic Order emerges from visible signs of use, where patina becomes a valued asset. The room invites tactile engagement and a deeper connection to its materials.
Spatial Narrative
The eye lands on the worn chesterfield sofa, the room's central focus. It draws you in, inviting rest and conversation. You settle onto its deep cushions, surrounded by textured surfaces and aged objects.
Light Study
Morning light filters softly through large windows, diffused by the limewashed walls. In the evening, brass sconces cast a warm, focused glow, highlighting furniture contours and material textures.
Living Vignette
A hand-stitched linen throw rests over the arm of the sofa. Its visible mending tells a story of care and continued use.
Material Palette
Limewash Plaster: This mineral paint creates a matte finish with subtle depth and softens incoming light. Distressed Leather: The worn surface feels supple and shows a rich patina that deepens with use. Unlacquered Brass: This metal will gradually tarnish, developing a unique, muted finish over time.
