Living Room • 772 8th Ave, Unit 1, San Francisco, CA 94118
This room uses textiles as its primary structure. Fabric panels drape from the ceiling, forming a soft canopy over the central space. Quilted linen covers the walls, adding texture and absorbing sound. A modular seating system defines the conversational area. Woven lighting fixtures cast intricate shadows. Natural textures like wool, leather, and wood enhance the tactile experience.
This room builds comfort through touch and enclosure.
Design Philosophy
This design applies Textile Architecture. It uses fabric as structural elements to shape the space. This creates distinct zones and a sense of enclosure. A Phenomenological approach emphasizes sensory comfort. It prioritizes the feeling of the space over rigid forms.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first tracks the draped linen panels above the seating area. You are drawn to the central arrangement, designed for conversation. A woven screen guides your gaze toward a more private, quieter zone.
Light Study
Morning light filters softly through the draped panels. It casts diffuse shadows across the quilted walls. Evening light from the woven pendants creates intricate patterns on all surfaces.
Living Vignette
A hand reaches for a book from a nearby woven basket. The weight of the wool throw settles across someone's lap.
Material Palette
Quilted Linen: It feels soft and padded. It softens further with time. Wool Upholstery: It feels warm and resilient. It develops a rich texture with use. Woven Fibers: It feels organic and textured. It shows gentle wear patterns over years.
