772 8th Ave, Unit 1 Kitchen — Worn Marble design direction

Worn Marble Kitchen Lives.

Kitchen • 772 8th Ave, Unit 1, San Francisco, CA 94118
Generic cabinets and stainless steel gave way to character. Inset doors with antique mirror panels now line the walls. Salvaged Carrara marble countertops show a honed finish. A custom plaster hood hides modern ventilation above a vintage-style range. Unlacquered brass hardware darkens with daily touch. An aged bridge faucet arches over the sink. A hand-knotted Persian rug grounds the working area. The room reflects years of use, offering a subtle, grounded presence.
This kitchen proves time is its best finish.
Design Philosophy
This design adheres to the Phenomenological framework, focusing on the lived experience. Materials like honed marble and unlacquered brass gain character over time. The Aesthetic Order framework guides the placement of objects and textures. The room feels grounded, reflecting daily interaction and subtle change.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first lands on the custom plaster hood and the vintage-style range. Open shelving filled with antique dishware draws your gaze along the counter. Your path moves naturally towards the sink, anchored by the worn Persian rug.
Light Study
Morning light washes over the honed marble, revealing its subtle veins. As dusk falls, brass sconces cast soft pools, highlighting the texture of the limewashed plaster hood. The room shifts from bright clarity to a warm, inviting glow.
Living Vignette
A well-worn wooden cutting board sits ready on the marble counter. The sound of water fills the aged brass sink as a cookbook lies open on the shelf.
Material Palette
Salvaged Carrara Marble: Its honed finish develops a soft sheen and registers the kitchen's history. Unlacquered Brass: This hardware deepens to a rich brown, gaining character with every touch. Hand-Knotted Persian Rug: Wool and silk fibers soften underfoot, showing intentional fading and accumulated wear.
