Design Philosophy
This design uses Proxemics to define personal and social spaces. Experiential Zoning creates distinct areas for different activities. It allows for intimate connection within the dining zone. It also offers expansive calm in the adjacent open area.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first travels from the open entrance towards the darker, more defined dining zone. You walk across the bare wood floor into the space. You settle into the robust chair at the substantial dark table, enveloped by the deep wall color.
Light Study
Morning sunlight streams through the large window, illuminating the lighter wall first. The deep dining walls absorb some natural light, creating a subtle contrast even during the day. In the evening, low-hanging pendants intensely focus warm light onto the dining surface, while diffused ambient light softly defines the rest of the room.
Living Vignette
Two people lean in across the dark table, their conversation held close by the focused light. Beyond them, the lighter wall recedes into quiet stillness.
