Living Room • 1 Sutton Pl S Unit 4CD, New York, NY 10022
Modular screens of brass mesh and resin reconfigure the main living area. A corrugated zinc wall creates an industrial backdrop. A concrete garden bench serves as the primary coffee table. This reworks how the space is used.
Plush velvet upholstery sits against raw textures. Outdoor floodlights provide dramatic indoor illumination. Vintage furniture finds new purpose here. This design subverts expected material use.
This room shifts its function by design.
Design Philosophy
This design embraces 'Playful Subversion.' Traditional forms and materials are recontextualized. 'High-Low Mixing' brings industrial elements alongside classical architecture. The room prevents static routine through active material interplay.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye moves across the large jute rug to the corrugated zinc wall. Modular screens draw you into redefined seating zones. You settle onto a velvet chair, facing the heavy concrete table.
Light Study
Morning light enters broadly through large windows, illuminating the textured zinc. In the evening, focused floodlights create dramatic shadows. They highlight material contrasts and sculptural forms.
Living Vignette
A hand rests on the cool, smooth concrete coffee table. The scent of an open book fills the air.
Material Palette
Corrugated zinc: It feels cool and rigid, aging with a muted, subtle patina.
Woven brass mesh: It feels intricate and metallic, aging to a darker, richer hue.
Untreated concrete: It feels cool and substantial, aging with a smooth, worn surface.
Heavy textured jute: It feels rough yet soft underfoot, softening and lightening with wear.
Velvet: It feels soft and luxurious, developing a crushed, rich texture with age.
