Dining Room • 1 W 72nd St #56, New York, NY 10023
Unlacquered copper oxidizes daily, revealing new tones. Untreated saddle leather deepens its color and marks with time. Limewash walls display a living, mottled finish. This room changes with you. A custom dining set highlights material evolution. Rawer materials update the fireplace; focused lighting emphasizes texture. Minimal window treatments keep the evolving materials central.
This room changes with every moment you spend in it.
Design Philosophy
This design applies Material Autobiography. Every surface tells a developing story through visible change. Sensory Provocation engages guests with evolving textures and deep tones. This approach creates a room that feels alive, not static.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye goes first to the unlacquered copper feature wall, its surface already telling a story. You walk towards the custom dining table, drawn to the rich walnut and raw steel. You sit in a saddle leather chair, feeling the material settle around you.
Light Study
Morning light from tall windows illuminates the limewash walls, revealing subtle mottling. Evening light, focused and dramatic, casts deep shadows, emphasizing the texture of raw materials. The copper wall reflects specific light, highlighting new oxidized patterns.
Living Vignette
A guest traces a finger along the cool, textured copper wall. Later, the weight of a hand rests on the darkening saddle leather armrest.
Material Palette
Unlacquered Copper: It feels cool and smooth, then develops rich greens and browns as it oxidizes. Untreated Saddle Leather: It feels firm and natural, then softens, darkens, and gains unique marks with use. Limewash Paint: It feels matte and subtly uneven, then absorbs light differently, deepening its mottled finish.
