Slatted screens now divide the room without closing it off. A semi-recessed banquette offers varied seating and lighting. A large pivoting mirror shifts the room's focal point. These new elements prompt interaction with the space.
Walls are painted in creamy ivory. A light oak dining table centers the room. Sheer window treatments adjust for privacy. The room encourages conscious choices in every moment.
Every element invites a conscious decision about how to use the space.
Design Philosophy
This design challenges expectations for a dining space. It uses "Dual Narratives" to offer multiple ways to engage. "Evocative Boundaries" create ambiguous divisions within the layout. The approach encourages conscious choice, transforming a single function into many.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first lands on the pivoting mirror, setting the room's focus. You navigate through the slatted screens, defining varied zones. You settle into the banquette or a dining chair, choosing your comfort.
Light Study
Morning light enters broadly through tall windows, illuminating the main dining area. Sheer drapes can soften this brightness, offering privacy. Evening brings directed light, highlighting the banquette's choices and creating intimate zones.
Living Vignette
Someone turns the large mirror, reflecting the exterior view instead of the interior wall. They then slide into the brightly lit part of the banquette, opening a book.
Material Palette
Light wood slats: They feel smooth and solid, aging with a gentle patina.
Deep teal velvet: Its soft texture provides comfort, deepening in color with age.
Creamy ivory paint: The matte finish offers a subtle warmth, maintaining its clean look over time.
