Dining Room • 100 Barclay St Unit 21AD, New York, NY 10007
General downlights are replaced by linear cove lighting, washing walls softly. Hidden uplights create a floating effect under furniture and windows. Narrow-beam spotlights accent art and the dining table. Walls now feature a subtly textured, light-reflecting finish.
A new dark credenza grounds the space, contrasting with its hidden uplighting. The soft, light-colored rug diffuses ambient illumination. Polished stone and glass surfaces reflect focused beams, creating dynamic compositions.
Light actively composes the space.
Design Philosophy
This design employs Luminous Architecture to sculpt space with light. Light Choreography dictates the flow and intensity, creating dynamic compositions. Static elements gain movement through the interplay of illumination and shadow. The goal is a room that feels alive and constantly shifting.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye is drawn to the art piece on the main wall. You walk towards the dining table, its surface gleaming under a focused beam. Settle into a chair, surrounded by softly washed walls.
Light Study
Morning light from large windows fills the room, diffused by the sheer rug and reflective walls. In the evening, cove lighting softly washes the walls. Narrow-beam spotlights create sharp highlights on art and the dining table centerpiece.
Living Vignette
A fork gleams as it lifts from a plate, catching the precise light from above. Shadows shift subtly as you lean back, watching the wall wash deepen.
Material Palette
Venetian Plaster: Smooth and cool to the touch, it develops a subtle patina over time.
Dark Bronze: Firm and cool, it deepens in color with age, resisting wear.
