Softness Envelops, Boundaries Shift

Bathroom • 100 Barclay St Unit 21AD, New York, NY 10007
The existing bathroom's cool marble surfaces are rethought. Sheer linen drapes now form a soft canopy over the vanity. Upholstered fabric panels replace hard marble, absorbing sound. This transforms a rigid space. A custom woven bronze mesh screen replaces the glass shower enclosure. It offers privacy while filtering light and air. Fabric-wrapped lighting fixtures diffuse illumination. A coarse-woven fabric now covers the vanity, changing its hard appearance.
This room replaces hard surfaces with permeable, soft boundaries.
Design Philosophy
This design uses textile architecture to redefine spatial boundaries. Fabric panels and sheer drapes create a sense of fluidity. The focus is on sensory design, enhancing touch and sound absorption. This approach softens the environment, moving beyond rigid forms.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first goes to the soft canopy above the vanity. Next, the custom upholstered wall panel draws focus. The permeable bronze screen offers a gentle visual stop, inviting entry into the shower.
Light Study
Morning light filters softly through the sheer drapes, creating diffused illumination. In the evening, fabric-wrapped fixtures cast a gentle, even glow. This consistent quality minimizes harsh shadows.
Living Vignette
The plush rug cushions bare feet. A hand brushes the coarse vanity fabric.
