Kitchen • 100 Barclay St Unit 21AD, New York, NY 10007
An oversized pendant light hangs low over the kitchen island. It reorients the room's visual focus. Dollhouse-sized stools sit at the counter. They create playful tension with the giant light.
A massive abstract painting dominates the dining area. It dwarfs the banquette below. Oversized tiles extend across an entire wall. A monumental pivot door replaces the pantry entrance.
Scale itself becomes the central drama.
Design Philosophy
This design challenges immediate perception. It uses Juxtaposed Proportions to create visual drama. Elements are scaled beyond expectation. A Sculptural Intervention transforms ordinary fixtures into monumental focal points.
Spatial Narrative
My eye goes first to the low-hanging, oversized pendant. It pulls focus to the island below. I walk toward the kitchen, drawn by the monumental pivot door. I sit at a tiny stool, feeling the room's exaggerated scale.
Light Study
Morning light streams through large windows, washing the pale tiled wall. It highlights the vast abstract painting's texture. Evening light concentrates around the oversized pendant. It casts dramatic shadows across the island.
Living Vignette
A child sits on a miniaturized stool, reaching for a glass on the tall counter. The monumental pivot door swings open, revealing the pantry’s contents.
Material Palette
Hand-blown glass: The massive glass surface reflects light softly. It maintains its smooth, cool feel.
Ebonized oak: The dark wood offers a rich, deep texture. It develops a subtle sheen with age.
White marble: The polished stone countertop feels cool and solid. It acquires a unique patina over years of use.
