100 Barclay St Unit 21AD Master Bedroom — Elemental Dialogue design direction

Elements Speak. Textures Engage.

Master Bedroom • 100 Barclay St Unit 21AD, New York, NY 10007
Walls feature a raw, off-white lime-wash finish. A dark, polished marble slab accents the bed. The new bed frame is upholstered in soft, rumpled linen. Industrial pendants provide exposed, functional lighting. A coarse, hand-knotted natural fiber rug grounds the space. This room creates a tactile dialogue between primal and polished forms. Reclaimed timber meets blackened steel in the media console. Delicate glass contrasts with heavy carved wood. Every surface reveals its inherent nature through bold juxtapositions.
The room makes materials speak for themselves.
Design Philosophy
The design establishes a tactile dialogue through distinct material contrasts. It explores the relationship between primal vs. polished elements. Each surface proudly declares its inherent nature. Bold juxtapositions reveal the essence of every material.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first goes to the dramatic polished marble slab behind the bed. You walk across the coarse jute rug, feeling its texture underfoot. The low linen bed invites you to rest, a contrast of softness.
Light Study
Morning light streams through city-facing windows, highlighting the raw texture of the lime-wash walls. In the evening, industrial pendants cast focused light on the dark marble, creating deep shadows. Exposed filament bulbs provide a warm, functional glow after dark.
Living Vignette
You reach for a cool, hand-blown glass carafe on the bedside table. Rough river stones shift slightly in a nearby carved wooden bowl.
Material Palette
Lime-wash plaster: It feels raw and porous; its mineral qualities deepen with time. Polished dark emerald marble: It feels cold and smooth; its elegant veining retains its luster. Rumpled natural linen: It feels soft and inviting; it softens further and gains character with use.
