Bathroom Senses: Feel, Listen

Bathroom • 100 Barclay St Unit 21AD, New York, NY 10007
The room transforms from pristine white marble to an interactive sensory space. Acoustic panels behind the vanity alter the soundscape. A hidden system releases natural essential oils at intervals. Radiant floor heating establishes varied thermal zones underfoot. Tunable lighting shifts from cool white to warm amber across different zones. Textured travertine tiles invite physical engagement with their rough surface. This space prompts you to interpret your comfort. It asks you to feel, listen, and discern.
This room actively asks you to define your own comfort.
Design Philosophy
This design prioritizes direct sensory interaction. Perceptual Engagement is achieved through varied textures, sounds, and aromas. Atmospheric Layering uses dynamic lighting and thermal zones to shift the environment. The room actively solicits your personal interpretation of comfort.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first registers the textured travertine wall, inviting touch. You move towards the vanity, sensing varied temperatures underfoot. You settle near the mirror, listening to the altered acoustics.
Light Study
Morning light near the mirror provides a cool, energizing white glow for clarity. In the evening, the shower alcove radiates a warm, relaxing amber light. Dynamic tunable white lighting adapts to your mood throughout the day.
Living Vignette
You step onto the heated floor, feeling its warmth spread through your feet. The subtle scent of cedar drifts in, a fresh, natural presence.
Material Palette
Acoustic Felt Panels: Soft felt absorbs sound, maintaining its visual form over time. Travertine Tile: Rough, natural stone offers tactile variation and develops a subtle patina with use. Heated Floor Tiles: Smooth ceramic stone warms underfoot, retaining its cool, hard surface when unheated.
