Bathroom • 100 Barclay St Unit 21AD, New York, NY 10007
This bathroom sheds solid forms for light itself. A large backlit alabaster panel now anchors the main wall. Hidden perimeter cove lighting washes the ceiling. A vertical luminous mirror frames your reflection. These changes sculpt the room with layers of illumination.
A dynamic tunable white light system shifts the room's mood. Light expands the space, then pulls it intimate. A subtle water feature with integrated spotlight adds a calm, moving element. This environment responds directly to the moment.
This room is defined by light, not by walls.
Design Philosophy
The design uses light to define spatial boundaries. Ambient Illumination washes surfaces, creating a soft, even glow. Material Transparency allows light to pass through and become a physical presence. The room feels expansive and intimate, responding to shifting illumination.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first goes to the glowing alabaster wall, drawing you into the room. You walk towards this light source, finding depth in its luminescence. The layered lighting leads you to explore the room's expanded perception.
Light Study
Morning light begins with a crisp, cool white, mimicking natural daylight. The alabaster panel glows with increasing intensity. As evening approaches, the system shifts to a warmer, softer amber, creating a serene, intimate atmosphere.
Living Vignette
After a long day, the soft, warm light of the mirror illuminates a quiet moment. Water in the shallow basin reflects a single, moving spotlight.
