Bathroom • 15 Central Park W Unit 11L, New York, NY 10023
The room redefines its boundaries. A vibrant orange acoustic panel aggressively interrupts existing black marble wainscoting. Upper walls now feature a deep blue-grey matte finish, a soft contrast. An asymmetrical concrete basin rests on a raw blackened steel stand.
An off-center overhead light casts dramatic shadows. A sharp-edged sconce projects an elongated pattern on the opposite wall. An irregularly shaped mirror hangs slightly askew. A heavy dark runner ends abruptly, challenging expected pathways.
This room forces a re-evaluation of expected comfort.
Design Philosophy
The design employs Deconstructive Form to challenge conventional bathroom layouts. It introduces disparate elements to create visual friction. A Disruptive Palette uses high contrast and aggressive color to reframe the space. This forces a new evaluation of expected comfort and visual flow.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first captures the vibrant orange acoustic panel, aggressively cutting the marble line. The gaze then shifts to the off-center concrete basin and its asymmetrical stand. An irregularly shaped mirror pulls focus upward, reflecting the dramatic light cone.
Light Study
Morning light enters, highlighting the raw textures and sharp angles of the new elements. The overhead light creates a harsh, off-center cone, defining a precise space. Evening brings deep shadows from the sconce, elongating patterns across the opposite wall.
Living Vignette
A splash of water catches the light as it hits the rough concrete basin. The sharp edge of the sconce casts a long, thin shadow across the doorframe.
Material Palette
Vibrant orange acoustic panel: This panel provides a soft, sound-absorbing texture that holds its intense color.
Unfinished concrete: Unfinished concrete feels cool and rough, developing a unique patina and small imperfections with use.
Raw blackened steel: Raw blackened steel is cool and rigid, gaining character through minor scratches and a deeper sheen over time.
