Bedroom • 15 Central Park W Unit 11L, New York, NY 10023
The room's walls are stripped bare. Moldings and baseboards are gone. Seamless plaster planes rise from floor to ceiling. The platform bed disappears into the room's footprint. Hidden storage panels blend with wall surfaces. This creates uninterrupted architectural lines.
Soft LED light emanates from hidden coves. A large, unpatterned wool rug defines the sleeping area. Honed concrete floors lead the eye. Bleached ash wood elements add subtle warmth. This design centers around what is absent.
The room focuses attention on its essential structure.
Design Philosophy
This room uses Subtractive Design. Elements were removed until only essentials remained. Negative Space Dominance makes the voids as important as solids. This creates a clear, expansive sense of freedom.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first sweeps the uninterrupted wall planes. You walk on the cool, expansive concrete. The large rug guides you to the integrated bed.
Light Study
Morning light enters from expansive city views, filling the room with diffused clarity. Evening brings a soft, uniform glow from hidden linear LEDs. These integrated lights reveal only surfaces, not fixtures.
Living Vignette
A book rests open on the clean floor beside the bed. The weight of your hand feels distinct on the cool concrete surface.
Material Palette
Smooth plaster: It feels cool and even to the touch. It develops a subtle patina over time.
Honed light-gray concrete: It feels cool and solid underfoot. It resists wear with a subtle sheen.
Bleached ash wood: It feels smooth and slightly warm. It lightens further with age and exposure.
