A grand, freestanding wooden cabinet now provides storage, replacing the symmetrical double vanity and paired with a delicate pedestal sink. Mismatched antique mirrors cluster above the main sink, replacing uniform medicine cabinets. One wall features deeply textured botanical wallpaper, contrasting with plain plaster on adjacent walls. Aged brass fixtures complete the functional update.
This room avoids uniformity. Each element stands on its own, contributing to a personal story. Varied surfaces catch light differently. The arrangement of objects guides the eye through a journey of collected history.
This room presents individual histories through its collected forms.
Design Philosophy
The design intentionally creates a narrative of collected history. It uses Asymmetrical Vignettes to break expected order. Evocative Juxtaposition places old next to new, and plain next to rich. Each element contributes a unique voice to the space.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye goes first to the cluster of mismatched mirrors above the sink. It then moves to the deeply textured accent wall, contrasting with the plain plaster. The freestanding cabinet and separate pedestal sink guide you through the reordered space.
Light Study
Morning light reveals the rich texture of the wallpaper and the varied surfaces of the mirrors. In the evening, a single sculptural sconce and a floor lamp cast focused pools of light. Shadows deepen the character of each object and corner.
Living Vignette
You select a linen-cotton towel from the open shelves of the wooden cabinet. The aged brass faucet feels cool as water runs into the ceramic pedestal sink.
Material Palette
Textured Botanical Wallpaper: This wallcovering adds deep tactile interest, its patterns softening with indirect light.
Reclaimed Wood Cabinet: The substantial wood feels solid and grounded, showing its history through worn surfaces.
Aged Brass Hardware: Aged brass feels warm to the touch and develops a deeper, rich patina over time.
