Bathroom • 151 E 58th St Unit 38A, New York, NY 10022
A rough-sawn light oak vanity floats, releasing subtle scents. Upper walls feature acoustic plaster, dampening sound with a suede-like texture. A heated floor section near the shower contrasts with cooler natural stone elsewhere. Touch-sensitive faucets provide immediate haptic feedback. Dynamic lights shift color temperature based on room occupancy. Unglazed terracotta tiles contrast with polished river stone for varied foot sensations. Smart mirrors display ambient light changes and offer integrated soundscapes. This design engages senses beyond sight.
This room directly engages touch, sound, and scent to heighten physical presence.
Design Philosophy
This design employs Experiential Design principles to engage multiple senses. Biomimicry informs the use of natural textures and dynamic elements. The room offers varied touch, sound, and scent experiences. It encourages a heightened awareness of one's physical presence.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first moves to the floating oak vanity and its integrated scent panel. Footsteps lead across cool terracotta, then onto the warm section near the shower. Interactions involve touch-sensitive faucets and smart mirrors displaying dynamic light.
Light Study
Morning light enters, mixing with cooler color temperatures from the dynamic system. As evening approaches, artificial light shifts to warmer hues based on occupancy. This influences the perception of room warmth throughout the day.
Living Vignette
Stepping onto the heated floor section, the rough-sawn oak scent diffuses into the air. A hand brushes the suede-like wall texture before reaching for the touch-sensitive faucet.
