Bathroom • 151 E 58th St Unit 38A, New York, NY 10022
The room segments into three distinct areas: washing, grooming, bathing. Each area uses a progressively lighter or deeper shade. This color application shifts perception from one zone to the next.
White marble walls change to matte plaster or large-format tiles. Dark vanity becomes a custom-painted mid-tone unit. Frameless, edge-lit mirrors replace reflective panels. Tunable LED strips adjust light perception.
Color directs movement and mood through distinct bathroom zones.
Design Philosophy
This design uses Chromatic Zoning to segment the bathroom into distinct functional areas. Layered Saturation applies a progressive color gradient across these zones. Each hue shift defines a specific activity, from washing to bathing. This approach guides a psychological transition through the space.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye follows the color shift from the washing zone to the bathing area. You walk through progressively lighter or deeper hues. This journey defines functional zones without physical barriers.
Light Study
Morning light illuminates the lighter bathing zone, feeling open. Tunable LED strips enhance specific color saturations throughout the day. Evening light emphasizes the deeper hues, creating a focused, immersive environment.
Living Vignette
The subtle bronze faucet feels cool against your fingertips. You reach for a dark textured towel from the deepest colored zone.
