Kitchen • 151 E 58th St Unit 38A, New York, NY 10022
The existing open shelving is gone. A dark charcoal concrete wall now spans unevenly, creating heavy mass. The main kitchen prep zone shifts dramatically off-center. A single, oversized pendant light hangs in an unexpected place.
Pale grey concrete tiles form an asymmetrical floor pattern. The banquette deepens to rich teal leather, gaining visual weight. A low, wide storage console grounds the opposite wall, balancing heavy forms.
The design forces a new perspective on visual equilibrium.
Design Philosophy
This design establishes a powerful, unsettling equilibrium. Visual weight redistributes with audacious intent, demanding a new perspective. It utilizes Dispersed Gravity to rebalance the room's elements. Confrontational Composition dictates the deliberate disregard for symmetry.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye is drawn first to the heavy, dark concrete wall. You walk across the asymmetrical floor pattern, its lines refusing traditional alignment. You sit at the glass table, positioned against the deep teal banquette.
Light Study
Morning light enters from city views, sharply illuminating the polished concrete wall. Evening brings a single, oversized pendant's focused glow to the off-center prep zone. Ambient light then casts long, soft shadows across the floor's diagonal pattern.
Living Vignette
A person leans against the deep teal banquette, observing the stark lines of the room. The sculptural dining table reflects the city lights outside.
