GRAND DINING, HONEST WEAR

Dining Room • 151 E 58th St Unit 38A, New York, NY 10022
The dining table receives an organically shaped wooden slab. A deliberate central fissure defines its surface. Walls show uneven limewash, revealing raw plaster beneath. This treatment speaks to the passage of time. A custom chandelier casts intentional shadows. Distressed saddle leather chairs feature exposed structural details. Unlacquered brass accents deepen their patina daily. Each element gains character with age.
The room reveals the beauty of materials marked by time.
Design Philosophy
The design emphasizes Material Storytelling. Imperfections become integral features of the room. This approach supports Temporal Design, where materials age visibly. Each element gains deeper character over time.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first moves to the massive wooden dining table. You walk towards its central fissure, a darkened steel line. Guests gather around its worn surface, seated on leather chairs.
Light Study
Morning light streams in from the expansive windows, illuminating the table's wood grain. It highlights the raw plaster textures on the wall. In the evening, the custom chandelier casts concentrated pools of light and intentional shadows across the room.
Living Vignette
A hand rests on the cool brass chandelier arm. Fingers trace the deep fissure in the wood slab.
Material Palette
Reclaimed live-edge wood: It feels substantial and textured. Its grain deepens with oiling, revealing more history. Limewash over raw plaster: The finish is chalky and uneven. It softens with friction, allowing glimpses of the base material. Unlacquered brass: It feels solid and cool to the touch. The surface tarnishes unevenly, developing unique dark spots and highlights.
