Greige Textures Define Space

Bedroom • 16 5th Ave #7, New York, NY 10011
All walls and the ceiling wear a unified, matte greige plaster finish. This application removes hard color breaks. It allows ambient light to define texture and form. The deeply textured rug defines the sleeping zone without color contrast. Furniture forms remain simple. Their identity comes from varied materials in the same tonal range.
Light and texture create definition where color is absent.
Design Philosophy
Monochromatic layering builds depth through tactile shifts. Material dialogue communicates function via varied surface properties. Light creates highlights and shadows. This emphasis differentiates similar-toned surfaces, detailing their individual attributes.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first registers the full-wall window, drawing focus to the urban view. It then settles on the large bed, clearly marked by its textured rug. You move across the smooth floor to the softness of the rug, anchoring the restful zone.
Light Study
Morning light from the full-wall window reveals subtle plaster irregularities. Directed evening light from concealed LEDs accentuates material sheens. Shadows deepen, highlighting the varied textile patterns and object forms.
Living Vignette
Your hand traces the cool, smooth surface of the polished marble bedside table. The nubby texture of the wool bed frame provides a direct, tangible contrast.
Material Palette
Matte greige plaster finish: It feels finely textured under touch. The plaster develops a soft, organic patina over time. Undyed nubby wool: This wool feels substantial and irregular. It maintains its distinctive texture without flattening. Polished light marble: It feels cool and smooth to the touch. The marble gains a richer luster with age and interaction.
