16 5th Ave #7 Kitchen — Lived Narratives design direction

Life's Story, Visibly Collected.

Kitchen • 16 5th Ave #7, New York, NY 10011
One kitchen wall holds a custom display unit. It shows collected ceramic bowls and family cookbooks. The central island resurfaces with thick, reclaimed elm. Its visible grain and knots tell silent stories of its past. The dining area features mismatched wooden chairs collected over time. A monumental, hand-stitched textile art piece dominates one wall. This artwork makes a definitive statement about global experiences. A large, hand-carved sculpture anchors the entire space.
Every object in this room tells a piece of a life story.
Design Philosophy
This design constructs a Curated Biography. Each element tells part of a personal life story. Surfaces act as a Palimpsest of Memory, revealing layers of history. The room itself narrates a rich, continuous story.
Spatial Narrative
The eye is drawn first to the oversized wooden sculpture, anchoring the room. You walk a winding path around it, encouraging a slower pace. The journey ends at the dining table, centered on the monumental textile art.
Light Study
Morning light illuminates the reclaimed elm, revealing its grain and texture. Evening brings a warm, focused glow from task lamps on collections. The etched glass pendant casts a soft light over the dining table.
Living Vignette
He pulls a heavy copper pot from the rack above the island. Its polished surface reflects the warm kitchen lights.
