16 5th Ave #7 Bathroom — Tonal Carve design direction

White Study, Textured Divisions

Bathroom • 16 5th Ave #7, New York, NY 10011
A plush, high-pile washable wool rug replaces the floor mosaic in the bathing area. This soft surface provides a distinct tactile division. Existing wooden vanities are replaced with custom-fluted matte plaster or concrete, creating rhythmic shadow-play. Linear LED strip lights highlight contours and varied sheens of materials. Polished white terrazzo thresholds define entry points to glass enclosures. Abstract monochromatic sculptures introduce diverse surface qualities, expanding the tonal exploration.
Every element here justifies its presence through texture.
Design Philosophy
This design rigorously studies a single hue. Monochromatic Layering builds depth through subtle tonal shifts across materials. Tactile Minimalism emphasizes varied surfaces and their interactions over color. Every material choice introduces a distinct textural division and visual justification.
Spatial Narrative
The central freestanding tub immediately draws the eye. Highly polished terrazzo thresholds define specific circulatory paths. Abstract sculptures encourage a close examination of surface and form as you move through the space.
Light Study
Morning natural light filters gently through frosted glass, softly illuminating broad surfaces. Evening targeted linear LED lighting activates textures, casting rhythmic shadows across fluted vanities.
Living Vignette
Water fills the central tub, its surface catching the dim light. Bare feet sink into the plush wool rug.
Material Palette
Plush Washable Wool: It feels soft and absorbent underfoot. This material wears well with proper care. Matte Plaster or Concrete: This surface feels cool and grounding. It develops a subtle, refined patina over time. Polished White Terrazzo: The surface is smooth and highly reflective. This durable material maintains its sheen with use.
