Dining Room • 252 7th Ave Unit 10P, New York, NY 10001
The dining room’s main wall and adjacent ceiling are drenched in ultra-matte midnight blue. This deep color extends onto the floor, forming a bold chromatic "rug." It blurs the typical wall-to-floor transition. The existing HVAC unit is painted to disappear into the blue field.
A sculptural metallic fixture in polished brass cuts through the dark space. The dining table and chairs are stark, reflective white. These pieces stand out sharply against the deep backdrop. Strategic lighting emphasizes the wall's depth, creating shifting shadows.
Color completely redefines the room's character.
Design Philosophy
This design embraces Monochromatic Extremism, drenching key surfaces in a single, intense color. It uses Spatial Disruption to blur traditional room divisions. The intent is to challenge typical perception. Color takes precedence, redefining the room's character.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye immediately draws to the deep blue feature wall. You walk across the painted floor segment towards the bright dining table. You sit enveloped by intense color.
Light Study
Morning light filters through windows, subtly illuminating the deep blue surfaces. It emphasizes the stark white furniture. In the evening, uplighting and downlighting deepen the blue, creating shifting shadows and obscuring precise corners.
Living Vignette
The clink of a glass on the white table breaks the quiet. A friend gestures, their hand silhouetted against the dark wall.
Material Palette
Ultra-matte paint: Its flat finish absorbs light, creating a deep, velvety surface that will show minor scuffs over time.
High-gloss white lacquer: This reflective surface provides sharp contrast and cleans easily, retaining its sheen with care.
Polished brass: This metal develops a rich patina over years, gaining character and depth.
