Dining Room • 252 7th Ave Unit 10P, New York, NY 10001
The existing chandelier is removed, replaced by integrated linear LEDs and wall washers. These lights illuminate specific planes and objects, making light the primary sculptural element. Backlit translucent panels provide ambient glow. A dark matte panel contrasts with reflective elements. Window treatments allow precise control of natural light.
Walls feature polished plaster for reflection and deep matte finishes for absorption. The dining table base is polished chrome, creating a visual 'splash' of light. Seating uses a subtly textured fabric that shifts appearance under varying light. A low-pile, dark rug grounds the dining zone, absorbing light.
Light sculpts the space, creating constant visual change.
Design Philosophy
This design uses Light layering to create shifting visual narratives. Dynamic materiality allows surfaces to constantly interact with illumination. This ensures the dining experience remains focused and unique. Every interaction with light changes the room's character.
Spatial Narrative
The eye is drawn first to the integrated linear lighting. Subtle floor-level path lighting guides movement towards the dining table. Seating offers a focused view of changing light and shadow play.
Light Study
Morning light, diffused by updated window treatments, softly highlights reflective surfaces. In the evening, integrated linear LEDs sculpt the space. Wall washers create a focused, dramatic ambiance for dining.
Living Vignette
A knife edge catches a sliver of linear light, glinting as it moves. The textured fabric of a seat changes hue under a shifting wall wash.
