Raw Textures Meet Polished Surfaces

Bathroom • 252 7th Ave Unit 10P, New York, NY 10001
This room challenges expected pristine surfaces. Rough concrete meets polished quartzite directly. The interplay highlights inherent beauty in both raw and refined. A large wall now features rough-hewn concrete panels. Highly polished white quartzite replaces the vanity countertop. Hand-loomed textiles soften the hard edges, inviting touch.
This room reveals beauty in the direct conversation between raw and refined materials.
Design Philosophy
The design activates a Material Dialogue between opposing textures. Raw concrete and polished quartzite exist side-by-side. This creates Tactile Juxtaposition, challenging the sterile. It finds beauty in each material's inherent state, raw or finished.
Spatial Narrative
The eye is drawn immediately to the rough concrete accent wall. You walk across the hand-loomed rug to the polished quartzite vanity. The space guides movement through contrasting textures.
Light Study
Morning light, direct and sharp, highlights the concrete's rough texture. Evening brings an ambient glow, making the quartzite vanity surface shimmer. Strategic directional light reveals every surface detail.
Living Vignette
Your hand traces the cool, uneven surface of the concrete wall. The warmth of a plush wool bathmat greets bare feet.
Material Palette
Polished white quartzite: Feels smooth and cool. It resists stains and holds its gleam indefinitely. Hand-loomed wool: Feels soft and dense underfoot. It gains character with age, softening further.
