Contrast Guides Movement, Shifts Mood

Bathroom • 252 7th Ave Unit 10P, New York, NY 10001
The main vanity wall offers bright release, amplified by a larger, back-lit mirror. The shower interior, clad in deep charcoal porcelain tiles and a dark ceiling, creates a sense of compression. The toilet alcove becomes a decompression zone with rich, dark textured walls and soft, concealed uplighting. A long, low floating vanity in light wood stretches the main space. Overall lighting dramatically dictates mood shifts, from broad washes to sharp beams. A dark, flat-weave rug near the shower exit marks a tactile transition.
The room dynamically shifts from expansive light to deep focus.
Design Philosophy
The design uses Dynamic Proportions to establish varied scales. It compels movement between distinct zones of experience. Atmospheric Shift dictates mood changes through light and material. This creates contrasting bright and intimate experiences.
Spatial Narrative
The eye is drawn first to the expansive, bright vanity mirror. Movement is compelled towards the compressed, dark shower and toilet zones. The design guides you from broad release to focused intimacy.
Light Study
Morning light floods the main vanity, creating a bright, expansive atmosphere. Evening light uses targeted downward beams in the shower and soft uplighting in the toilet alcove. These shifts redefine the room's mood and function.
Living Vignette
The sound of running water echoes softly from the tiled shower. Hands reach for a warm, dark towel after stepping onto the rug.
Material Palette
Large format deep charcoal porcelain tiles: These feel cool and smooth, maintaining their dense color over time. Rich, dark navy blue textured paint: This surface feels subtly granular and holds its deep color without fading. Light, wide-grained wood veneer: This offers a smooth, warm touch and develops a subtle sheen with age.
