Living Room • 530 Park Ave Unit 17A, New York, NY 10065
Terracotta tiles define entry paths, announcing arrival with sound. A deep, low-pile wool rug dampens acoustics in the seating area. Polished wood floors clearly mark the dining space. This division creates distinct auditory zones. Rough plaster walls absorb sound around seating. Thick velvet drapes modulate light and acoustics. Warm amber sconces provide ambient light. Cool task lights illuminate focused activities. Zoned diffusers release earthy aromas.
The room guides your senses through distinct zones.
Design Philosophy
This design applies multi-sensory principles to every surface. It creates varied tactile and auditory zones throughout the space. Acoustic textures define different areas through specific material changes. Thermal variety is achieved with distinct lighting temperatures.
Spatial Narrative
The eye follows the terracotta path from the entry. It leads to the expansive wool rug in the living zone. Here, deep upholstered furniture invites sitting.
Light Study
Morning light streams through large windows, brightening the entire space. In the evening, amber sconces cast warm pools of light across lounging areas. Cooler task lights provide focused illumination for reading.
Living Vignette
A hand runs across the rough plaster wall. The shifting light alters its texture and shadow.
Material Palette
Terracotta tiles: Natural finish, feels cool and solid underfoot. It develops a rich patina over time. Rough aggregate plaster: Feels textured and porous. It softens sound and gains character from touch. Heavyweight velvet: Feels soft and dense to the touch. It deepens in color and drapes gracefully with age.
