530 Park Ave Unit 17A Dining Room — Obsidian Plane design direction

Dark Plane Defines Quiet Interiors

Dining Room • 530 Park Ave Unit 17A, New York, NY 10065
Deep charcoal acoustic plaster covers all walls. This finish absorbs sound, creating a contained atmosphere. Floor-to-ceiling dark grey sheers filter incoming light. They soften the exterior view. A monolithic black stone table anchors the dining zone. Linear LED lights cut precise paths through the space. The dark resin floor unifies the entire area. This design establishes a deeply quiet room.
This room actively quiets its environment.
Design Philosophy
The design implements Subtractive Monochromatics. Visual interest comes from varied textures, not color contrast. Materiality as Boundary defines each zone. Acoustic plaster walls absorb sound and light. This creates a deeply quiet environment.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first lands on the monolithic black dining table. It grounds the room. Linear light strips guide your gaze along the walls and ceiling. You move into the dining area, drawn by the deep pile rug, then settle into a high-backed chair.
Light Study
Morning light filters softly through the dark sheers, casting subtle grey washes across the acoustic plaster. In the evening, integrated linear lighting carves sharp paths, defining planes. The semi-gloss floor reflects these light cuts.
Living Vignette
A single glass of water sits on the black stone table. Its surface reflects the ceiling light.
