Kitchen Zones: Purposeful, Connected Design

Kitchen • 530 Park Ave Unit 17A, New York, NY 10065
The kitchen divides into distinct functional zones. A slatted wood canopy frames the island and cooking area. Dark stone clads the cooking zone, creating focus. This defines activity areas within the open layout. A built-in banquette creates a cozy dining nook by the window. Specific task lighting illuminates each zone. Circulation flows around these architectural parts. New brass hardware updates existing cabinetry.
This kitchen breaks an open plan into purposeful, connected zones.
Design Philosophy
This design applies Broken Plan Living principles. Each kitchen activity receives a distinct architectural emphasis. Nested Architecture creates a sense of enclosure within open space. Functional zones are clearly defined and visually grounded.
Spatial Narrative
The eye is drawn to the slatted wood canopy over the island. It then moves to the dark stone cooking zone. You walk around these defined architectural parts, ending at the cozy banquette nook.
Light Study
Morning light streams through the window, brightening the banquette nook. It softly illuminates the kitchen's outer edges. Evening light relies on focused task lighting under the canopy and within each zone.
Living Vignette
The cook turns from the range, placing a hot dish on the island. Across the room, someone reads a book on the banquette.
