Bathroom • 530 Park Ave Unit 17A, New York, NY 10065
This bathroom now divides into three bold color zones. Burnt orange defines the vanity area. Deep cerulean blue marks the bathing zone. Emerald green forms the circulation path. Each color covers walls, ceilings, and floors within its zone.
Multiple materials in each zone share the same hue. Orange terracotta tiles meet a lacquered cabinet and concrete sink. Blue ceramic tiles pair with epoxy resin and a solid surface tub. Movement through the room is a journey through these intense colors.
This room uses color to define function and guide movement.
Design Philosophy
The design implements Color-Blocked Immersion. Each functional zone receives its own saturated color. Tonal Stratification ensures diverse materials within each zone share the same hue. This creates distinct, visually powerful statements throughout the room.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first lands on the deep orange vanity, a block of solid color. You walk through the emerald green path, a distinct transition. The journey ends in the cerulean blue bathing zone.
Light Study
Morning light filters from the window, illuminating adjacent building facades. Concealed linear LEDs cast upward washes, intensifying zone colors throughout the day. Evening light relies on colored pendant fixtures to define specific areas.
Living Vignette
Water streams into the orange concrete sink. A blue towel hangs over the solid surface tub.
Material Palette
Matte Terracotta Tiles: These large tiles offer a dry, earthy feel underfoot; they gain character and deepen in tone over time.
High-Gloss Ceramic Tiles: Their smooth, reflective surface feels cool to the touch; the gloss resists moisture and maintains its sheen for years.
Polished Porcelain Tiles: These slick tiles provide a firm, cool surface; their dense composition holds up to heavy use without showing wear.
