Kitchen • 530 Park Ave Unit 17A, New York, NY 10065
Translucent fabric panels now divide the kitchen without solid walls. The island base wraps in textured linen. Walls are clad with tactile fabric, softening hard surfaces and absorbing sound.
Overhead light fixtures are gone. Indirect light now highlights fabric structures. Sheer window treatments extend to diffuse all natural light, outlining space with a gentle glow.
The room defines space using textiles and diffused light.
Design Philosophy
The design implements Textile partitioning, softening traditional boundaries. A Soft material palette replaces hard surfaces. This creates implied structures, defining zones with fluid volume and light.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first follows the floor-to-ceiling textile dividers, which softly outline the kitchen. You move around the softly upholstered island. Seating in the jute rug area offers a quiet, grounded spot.
Light Study
Morning sun filters through sheer window fabrics, creating a soft, diffused glow across all surfaces. In the evening, indirect lighting within textile structures casts a warm, even light. This removes sharp shadows and defines volume gently.
Living Vignette
A person carefully folds a fresh batch of laundry on the solid surface, the fabric walls muting the street sounds. The soft light highlights the textured island, inviting a moment of quiet reflection.
Material Palette
Translucent linen fabric: It feels light and airy, becoming softer and more relaxed over time.
Textured natural linen upholstery: This fabric feels soft and substantial, developing a unique character with use.
