Acoustic panels fit precisely into the ceiling, absorbing sound discreetly. Rough-sawn oak veneer now refaces cabinetry, offering a deep texture that contrasts with smooth, cool polished concrete. A concealed water feature trickles gently, adding a consistent, subtle ambient sound.
Cool honed slate forms the island countertop, while the adjacent bar seating features a subtly heated wooden surface. A built-in herb garden provides fresh scents and a soft, living texture at the windowsill. A thick, hand-knotted wool rug grounds the seating area, offering a distinct, soft feel underfoot.
This room engages senses without demanding attention.
Design Philosophy
This design focuses on engaging all senses without overwhelming them. Haptic Immersion defines varied tactile and thermal experiences across surfaces. Ambient Acoustics integrates gentle, natural sound elements into the space. The result creates a deeply resonant yet understated atmosphere.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first registers the contrast between rough-sawn oak and polished concrete. It moves along the island, drawn by the varied temperatures of its surfaces. You walk towards the window, where the living herb garden creates a focal point.
Light Study
Morning light enters from the window, highlighting textures on the rough-sawn oak and honed slate. It casts defined shadows, emphasizing depth. Evening light, indirect and warm, softens the room's elements, deepening the dark materials.
Living Vignette
Water trickles gently behind a frosted glass panel. A hand brushes the cool honed slate, then rests on the warm wooden bar surface.
Material Palette
