A massive, dark stone vanity block anchors the room. Its deep profile holds two small, nearly hidden trough sinks. The entire wall above is covered by a grid of small, framed mirrors, creating fragmented reflections. This challenges the eye, disrupting the room's former expanse.
A single, enormous drum pendant light dominates the ceiling, casting a focused glow. Beside the freestanding tub, a tiny, dark-stained oak stool appears almost comically small. All door and shower hardware feature disproportionately large, heavy metal forms. These elements collectively shift perception of size and weight.
This room forces a re-evaluation of weight and dimension.
Design Philosophy
This design overpowers the senses with monumental forms. Elements are exaggerated to challenge perception, making visual weight an experience. We use **Scale Disruption** by contrasting oversized and undersized objects. **Visual Accumulation** appears in the fragmented mirror wall, building a dense visual field.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first encounters the massive dark stone vanity block. It then climbs the fragmented mirror wall, drawn by its countless reflections. Finally, the gaze rests on the tiny stool next to the tub, an endpoint of unexpected scale.
Light Study
Morning light filters softly, revealing the stone's texture and highlighting individual mirror frames. In the evening, the singular oversized drum pendant casts a strong, downward pool of light. It defines the central floor area, leaving wall perimeters in softer shadow.
Living Vignette
Reaching for the oversized shower handle feels substantial, a deliberate action. The tiny stool, while present, serves more as a sculptural anchor than a place to sit.
Material Palette
Dark volcanic stone: Its honed finish absorbs light, appearing stoic and heavy; it shows subtle use marks over time.
Small square mirrors: The numerous small glass panes reflect light in fragmented bursts; each holds its clarity for decades.
Brushed gunmetal: This heavy-gauge metal feels substantial in hand; its dark finish deepens with age and touch.
