Light Reconfigures Space And Form

Living Room • 930 Fifth Ave Unit 11A, New York, NY 10021
Opaque walls convert to reconfigurable translucent acrylic panels. These panels diffuse or concentrate light from an adjacent space. A ceiling grid of tunable LED lights provides precise control over direction and intensity. This system allows light to characterize movement within the room. The existing sofa is replaced by low-slung, light matte seating that absorbs light. A dark, polished epoxy resin floor reflects specific light beams. Polished chrome pedestals redirect light into prismatic forms. Embedded LED strips along the window base cast an upward glow, guiding the eye along the view's edge.
This room makes light a material that shapes its own forms.
Design Philosophy
Layered Translucency redefines spatial boundaries and allows light to filter. Controlled Illumination precisely sculpts interior forms with a programmable grid. Material Phenomenology ensures surfaces actively participate in the light experience. This design makes light a tangible, shifting element that constantly redefines perception.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first catches light shifting through the translucent wall panels. It travels across the polished dark floor, noting fragmented reflections. One ultimately settles into the low modular seating, oriented towards the window's illuminated edge.
Light Study
Morning light filters softly through translucent panels, creating layered glows. Evening programs activate precise, focused beams from the ceiling grid. These directed lights reflect off the dark floor and chrome, forming dynamic patterns.
Living Vignette
A hand reaches to adjust a book, its motion creating a fleeting shadow across a chrome pedestal. The room's programmed light subtly shifts, redefining the space around the gesture.
Material Palette
Translucent Acrylic: This material diffuses incoming light and maintains clarity with minimal visible wear. Polished Dark Epoxy Resin: The surface feels slick and cool, retaining its deep reflective sheen through heavy use. Matte Upholstery (Light Grey): This fabric feels soft and grounded, absorbing ambient light without developing a sheen.
