Ivor House, Brixton Dining Room — Jumbled Hues design direction

Bold Hues Ignite Open Plan

Dining Room • Ivor House, Brixton, London, UK
One wall is drenched in electric blue. The opposing wall gets hot pink. This defines the space sharply. Saturated colors clash and merge here. The kitchen backsplash is a patchwork of mismatched glossy and matte tiles. A vibrant lemon yellow island contrasts with the main cabinetry. Dining chairs mix different, clashing colors and styles.
The design introduces unexpected visual pathways.
Design Philosophy
The design defies traditional color logic. Asymmetrical color blocking introduces discord. Conflicting textures and bold patterns create disorienting pathways. This approach draws from Memphis Group and Abstract Expressionism principles.
Spatial Narrative
Electric blue and hot pink walls immediately grab attention. Your eye moves to the lemon yellow kitchen island. You settle at the white lacquered dining table.
Light Study
Gridded windows cast crisp morning light. This illuminates the bright wall colors. Track lighting with colored gels creates a dynamic, shifting evening glow.
Living Vignette
A guest laughs, their hand resting on a purple dining chair. A chrome watch reflects the blue wall.
Material Palette
High-gloss painted walls: The smooth, reflective surface intensifies colors, showing age through subtle scuffs and chips. Mixed ceramic and mirrored tiles: These varied surfaces provide tactile difference, resisting daily wear while maintaining visual play. Herringbone wood floor: The natural wood provides a grounding texture, developing a unique patina over time with use.
