Ivor House, Brixton Bathroom — Indigo Drench design direction

Indigo Drench: Immersive Color Saturation

Bathroom • Ivor House, Brixton, London, UK
This bathroom saturates with deep indigo blue. Walls, ceiling, and built-in elements disappear into the color. A single vermilion red basin cuts through the blue. Indirect lighting deepens the overall hue. The uniform color engulfs your senses. It creates an intense, atmospheric volume. Anti-slip indigo tiles keep color consistent in the shower. Every element reinforces the singular chromatic experience.
This room uses singular color to define its entire volume.
Design Philosophy
This design achieves Chromatic Immersion through complete room saturation. Walls, ceiling, and built-in elements receive a uniform indigo finish. Tonal Saturation is maximized by eliminating visual breaks. A contrasting vermilion basin provides a singular focal point within this deep blue field.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye goes directly to the vermilion red basin. The deep indigo walls then draw your gaze around the room. The consistent color guides your movement through the space.
Light Study
Indirect cove lighting defines the room's mood. In the morning, it casts a soft, even glow, minimizing shadows. At night, it intensifies the indigo, creating a dramatic, immersive depth.
Living Vignette
Steam from a hot shower momentarily mists the indigo walls. The vermilion basin holds cold water for a quick face wash.
Material Palette
Matte Indigo Paint: Matte paint feels soft to the touch. It deepens color without reflecting light. Glossy Indigo Ceramic Tile: Ceramic tile feels cool and smooth. It resists moisture and maintains its sheen. Vermilion Ceramic Basin: The ceramic basin feels smooth and hard. Its vibrant color remains consistent over time.
