Ivor House, Brixton Living Room — Grey Scale Inquiry design direction

Greyscale Nuance. Defined Living.

Living Room • Ivor House, Brixton, London, UK
The main wall gets large matte plaster panels. Thin, polished pewter strips form a subtle linear pattern within the plaster. Adjustable LED track lighting provides consistent neutral white light throughout the space. A modular sectional in textured charcoal fabric anchors the seating area. A concrete coffee table grounds the space with its dark metal base. Varying rug textures create subtle zones, while sheer pearl white drapery filters ambient light.
This room explores grey's depth through varied textures and precise light.
Design Philosophy
The design focuses on variations within a single tone. Subtractive Design pares down elements to their essence. Perceptual Dialogue encourages a close examination of subtle shifts. Diverse textures and light create depth from a restrained palette.
Spatial Narrative
Your eye first lands on the matte plaster wall with its subtle pewter lines. You then move towards the modular sectional in the room's center. You settle into the cool leather accent chair, observing the textured rug below.
Light Study
Morning light streams through the pearl white sheers, diffusing evenly across the space. The neutral white LEDs activate in the evening, illuminating specific textures. Dimmable controls allow precise light intensity.
Living Vignette
A hand traces the cool, smooth surface of the concrete table. The subtle shifts in the rug's pile invite a barefoot step across the floor.
Material Palette
Matte plaster: This surface feels smooth and absorbs light. It will develop a gentle patina over time. Polished pewter: It feels cool and sleek. Pewter resists tarnish and maintains its luster. Textured charcoal fabric: This fabric feels rich and inviting. Its woven nature will soften subtly with use.
