Ivor House, Brixton Bedroom — Hidden Vantage design direction

Intimate Zones, Expansive Views

Bedroom • Ivor House, Brixton, London, UK
A custom slatted screen of light oak partially encloses the bed, with translucent inserts allowing filtered light. Sheer linen curtains soften light from the large industrial window, emphasizing the exterior view when open. A built-in bench beneath the window offers a secondary viewing spot for contemplation. Dark wood bedside tables anchor the bed visually. A large abstract artwork hangs opposite the bed, drawing the eye towards a distant focal point. Recessed spot lighting defines the central sleeping zone, complemented by a flush-mount fixture for general illumination.
The design creates distinct zones for varied experiences.
Design Philosophy
This design employs Zoned Living principles to define distinct areas within one room. Soft Architecture creates subtle divisions without solid walls. A slatted screen partially encloses the bed, providing a private area. Varied lighting schemes distinguish different zones and purposes.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first goes to the large industrial window and its expansive prospect. A slatted screen draws attention to the bed area, creating a distinct zone. One can then choose to rest on the built-in bench or settle into the private sleeping space.
Light Study
Morning light streams through the sheer linen curtains, diffusing gently across the room. These curtains can be opened for brighter, direct natural illumination of the window view. In the evening, recessed spots cast focused light onto the bed zone, while general ambient light fills the broader space.
Living Vignette
You sit on the window bench, observing the city skyline. Later, you turn to the bed area, settling under the soft glow of its task lighting.
