Weller Street, Southwark Bedroom — Structure & Void design direction

Skeletal Form, Pure Space

Bedroom • Weller Street, Southwark, London, UK
The existing bed is replaced with a low-slung, open-frame metal bed. This new form emphasizes structural lines. Recessed wall niches integrate storage into the architecture. Objects appear to float within the wall. The entire room is painted in a uniform, matte white finish. Light gray polished concrete covers the floor. Linear LED strips define architectural planes. The room offers a precise experience.
This room distills living to its essential components.
Design Philosophy
This design applies principles of minimalist architecture. It reduces components to their essential forms. Spatial economy drives every choice. The room expresses form through reduction.
Spatial Narrative
The eye first sees the open-frame bed. It emphasizes the room's horizontal plane. Attention then moves to the recessed niches along the wall. The seamless floor leads towards the window.
Light Study
Morning light streams in through the large window. It illuminates the white walls softly. Linear LED strips activate in the evening. They cast precise lines of light, defining architectural planes.
Living Vignette
A person sits on the bed's edge, reading a book. The only sound is the turning page.
Material Palette
Powder-coated steel: This material is durable. It maintains its crisp finish over time. Matte white paint: This finish diffuses light. It provides a soft, uniform backdrop. Polished light gray microcement: This floor offers a monolithic surface. It gains a subtle patina with age.
