Rutland Gate, Knightsbridge Kitchen — Stripped Logic design direction

Raw Finishes. Direct Design.

Kitchen • Rutland Gate, Knightsbridge, London, UK
Walls are stripped to raw plaster or concrete. Visible imperfections record history. Unadorned kitchen units blend into the background. Utility is prioritized. Hidden light sources replace overhead fixtures. Indirect light washes surfaces. Exposed pipes become aesthetic elements. They reveal the building's infrastructure. Decorative finishes are removed entirely. Surfaces suggest a process of removal. This creates an almost uncomfortable purity. The space feels unfinished yet complete. Everything serves a direct purpose. Unimpeded circulation defines the layout.
This space is defined by what has been removed.
Design Philosophy
This design centers on radical reduction. It highlights what remains after stripping away finishes. The Exposed Consequence framework is evident in raw surfaces. Building infrastructure becomes part of the aesthetic. Unjustified Subtraction guides the removal of all superfluous elements. Only essential forms and functions remain visible.
Spatial Narrative
The eye is drawn to the exposed back wall. Its texture dominates the view. Circulation is direct and unimpeded through the open space. The path leads to the light source. You sit at the unadorned table, focused on its simple form.
Light Study
Morning light from the far window cuts sharply across the polished concrete floor. It reveals dust motes in the air. In the evening, hidden cove lighting washes the stripped walls. This creates a uniform, shadowless ambient glow.
Living Vignette
A single ceramic bowl, unadorned, sits centered on the table. It holds green apples. Their vibrant color offers the only strong pigment in the room.
Material Palette
Raw Plaster/Concrete: It feels cool and rough to the touch. It develops a subtle patina over time. Polished Concrete: It feels solid and cool underfoot. It resists wear, showing subtle scuffs with age. Matte Laminate: It feels smooth and uniform. It maintains its flat finish without gloss.
